Collection: Sleeping Pads

A good sleeping pad does two jobs: it cushions you and it stops the cold ground from pulling heat out of your body. Shop self-inflating pads, ultralight air pads, double pads for couples and closed-cell foam mats, all at deal prices.

Buying guide & FAQ

Air vs. self-inflating vs. foam

Air pads pack smallest and are lightest, which makes them the backpacker's pick. Self-inflating pads add foam inside for warmth and comfort and are ideal for car camping. Foam mats can't puncture and work as a backup layer under an air pad.

Match R-value to the season

R-value measures insulation from the ground. Use roughly R 2–3 for summer, R 3–4 for three-season trips and R 5+ for cold or snow camping. Stacking two pads adds their R-values together.

Pick the right size

Short and mummy-shaped pads save weight; rectangular and wide pads give side sleepers room to roll. Double pads fit most two-person tents.

Frequently asked questions

What sleeping pad R-value do I need?

For summer camping R 2–3 is enough; for spring and fall choose R 3–4; for winter use R 5 or higher, or stack a foam mat under your air pad.

Are self-inflating sleeping pads comfortable?

Yes. The foam core gives even support and they are quieter than air pads, though they pack larger.

How do I fix a leaking air pad?

Find the leak with soapy water, dry the area and apply the patch from the repair kit. Store pads unrolled with the valve open to make them last.

Can I use a sleeping pad on a cot?

Yes. A pad on a cot adds insulation from cold air underneath, which is the main reason cots feel chilly at night.
