Marshall Law

If it doesn't catch, it doesn't make the cut.

Every product on the Marshall Plan has to live up to five rules, then get scored on the Marshall Scale.

The Marshall Scale

Catch factor5
Toughness4
Ease of use4
Value5
Tech that matters4
Each product is scored 1 to 5 on these five things. Sample bars shown; real scores appear on every reviewed product.
  1. It gets fished

No unbox-and-rave reviews. Every product goes on real fishing trips before Marshall says a word about it.

  2. It has to catch

Specs are nice. Fish are better. If it does not help put fish in the boat, it does not get approved.

  3. It has to last

Rain, sun, salt, drops and dock rash. Gear has to hold up to the way anglers actually fish.

  4. He tells it straight

Pros, cons and who it is really for. If something falls short, the review says so.

  5. Only the best get the badge

Marshall Approved goes only on gear he would put in his own boat.
